The Tumbleweed Snowmen (from the series Echoes of Festivity)
I sincerely wish you, my readers, a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Year. In doing so I’m providing two rather than a single Xmas card. The first has its origins in West Texas, while the second is brought to you from Moscow.
In Marfa, Texas, where this photograph was taken, snow rarely falls, except on the peaks of the distant West Texas mountains. Consequently the children improvise. The children of this household built snowmen from tumbleweed and fashioned the faces from bits of cardboard and paper. As I remember, it felt like spring rather than winter, that Christmas in 2002.
