South America in Zaragoza (from the series: The Accidental Pilgrim)
In the center of Zaragoza in Northern Spain, a place named for Caesar Augustus, there is a monument that celebrates the Spanish discovery and conquest of a good part of South America. A man-made waterfall trickles down over the Northern coastline of South America and the rest of the continent defines the shape of a pool.
It is easy to walk past this without realizing what it represents. However, it is so striking that you are unlikely to walk past. You are more likely to sit on a bench and gaze at it for a while, and if you do, then the realization of what it represents will likely dawn on you. (But for you, of course, it is too late. Now you know.)
