PDQ MAC and HaveMacWillBlog
In my gradual move towards a “Guinness Clock effect” (see this posting for an explanation) on HaveMacWillBlog, I’ve set up a Bash script that changes the banner photo every hour (there are 10 such photos for each web site skin) and I’m in the process of writing a program that will make the web site skin change with it. Up to now I’ve been manually changing the web site skin (there are 11 skins) every day or so. What this means is that there are now 110 slightly different versions of the web site – but all with approximately the same look and feel. Maybe this will help stave off boredom for regular visitors, or maybe no-one will actually notice. (I’m going to add to the numbers of both so that the site has even more variety – but I don’t see it as an urgent task.)
To my complete surprise PDQ MAC took off like a rocket for a few days attracting about 1000 visitors in the first week. That was before I even registered it with Google, so none of it came from web search and very little of it came through HaveMacWillBlog. I guess it must have been word of mouth or something – which means it will probably die back. It caused me to go into a panic because I’d made the site available well before I had implemented any inherent organization to it, and it is probably a few weeks away from being ready for prime time.
However in the process of getting it going I discovered BBPress, which is the Forum software from the same stable as WordPress. It implements like a dream. I’m now working on getting yet another web site ready to roll. I think that’s gonna take about a month. In the process of all this I’m going to learn to develop professional software for the Mac. I’m intending to be ready for Web 3.0.
What is Web 3.0?
Web 3.0 is what would have happened to the web, if the world’s economy hadn’t just dived into the tank….
